on my idealism

on my idealism 150 150 Andrew Hicks

hey beloveds,

the other day during my weekly Bible study at the psych ward i went on a little rift about the conscious choice i make in life to be idealistic.

the rift went something like this:

you may say I’m idealistic. to that I would say, well yeah, but what’s the alternative? To be cynical? It seems to me that at the end of the day we can choose who we want to be. We can choose to be optimistic, positive, hopeful, and idealistic. Or we can choose to be cynical, angry, bitter, negative, and “realistic.” Who says the negative and cynical is more real than the idealistic?

and the more I’ve sat with what i said…. the more i really do believe it. i am an enneagram 4. i really am an idealist. that can get me into trouble real quick – to be sure – yet i think it is also one of the things people like most about me. i really do believe that we can choose how we want to see the world. it’s a perspectival choice.

personally, i choose to see the world with an idealism.

look at the civil rights movement – tell me that wasn’t idealistic.

i am an idealist and a proud one. it’s a choice. life is too short to be so bitter and angry.

hope this helps,

a.
