hey beloveds,
here are some things that i am thinking about, seeing, reading, listening to, etc.
this is curated by me, myself, and i. no AI or algorithms.
- i get asked a lot about prayer. like a lot. so here is the book i recommend 9/10 times: Help, Thanks, Wow by Ann Lamott. Also I watched the sermon from this video by GracePointe church in Nashville:
[the sermon starts at 36:05]
2. i have been enjoying the podcast “Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.” it’s an oral history of the satanic panic of the 80s. and further than that its about how chasing devils in a moral panic and outrage often keep us from noticing the real phantoms in our midst. it’s by Christianity Today and Mike Cosper the same crew that produced the podcast “Rise and Fall of Mars Hill” which i also deeply enjoyed. here’s the first episode.
3. in seminary i used the Harper Collins Study Bible. i used that thing until it was falling apart. it has been a standard and a beloved resource for many years. now they have released an updated edition and changed the name: the SBL Study Bible. “SBL” stands for Society of Biblical Literature – a respected and long standing society of academic research and collaboration on the study of the Bible and related materials. i would HIGHLY recommend it.
4. i have a dedicated page on my site – from a while back – with links to free online resources for studying the Bible that I have curated. here is the link to that.
5. i’ve been writing some poetry on the site lately. check it out if you haven’t. here is one to get you started.
6. i published a post yesterday about “where i am” describing how i would self-identify my faith affiliation and a brief description of what that means for me. check it out here if you want.
7. i read this great post on substack the other day: “Parenting Styles in Focus” by Chris Hanson. this comes from a substack page called “Open and Relational Parenting” that i am really digging lately.
that’s all for now. hope this helps.
keep it real,
a
