My friend Cheyenne wrote this prayer and prayed it on Sunday at Church (7.16.23). It is a prayer specifically geared to address mental health concerns. That being said, here’s the prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Please strengthen our hearts, and remind us to encourage one another when the troubles of life start to overwhelm us.
Please guard our hearts from depression, loneliness, unworthiness, and hopelessness.
God, bless all whoa re battling those inner demons and give us the strength to rise up each day and fight against the struggles which seek to weigh us down.
Shine Your warm Heavenly Light down upon all of us, guide us to find peace, happiness, and contentment in our lies and within ourselves.
In Jesus name. Amen.
It is a beautiful prayer that really touched my heart personally because I am someone who has been open about his struggles with mental health. In case it was unclear or unknown to someone: I have mental health issues that I constantly wrestle with. I take medication as part of that. I see a therapist as part of that. And that’s ok. It does NOT make me a less faithful Christian. In fact, I think in some ways it makes me a stronger one. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health please seek help from a variety of sources: doctors, counselors/therapists, spiritual directors, dietitians/trainers, and others. Seek the help you need and trust God while doing it.
