Ok. So I have not gotten too far in Celtic Daily Prayers and now I have already found another prayer book to explore. This one is the Book of Common Worship. It is the prayer and worship book for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) an the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. I found a nice used copy at my favorite Half Price Book store in Austin Texas.
One of the many prayers in this new volume that has captured my sanctified imagination is one of the “Prayers for Illumination” (i.e. a prayer you read before reading or studying scripture). Here it is:
Gracious God, We do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. Make us hungry for this heavenly food, that is may nourish us today in the ways of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen.
