how’s it hanging?
here are some things that i am thinking about, seeing, reading, listening to, etc.
this is curated by me, myself, and i. no AI or algorithms.
some things:
1. i am working on my second unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) – which is just a fancy way of saying chaplain training. i’m being trained through this group called Sankofa CPE. they are a non-western oriented group that centers BIPOC voices and inclusive of our queer friends. they’re amazing. i’d highly recommend them. – see here.
2. i read a great book recently. it’s called “Make Change That Lasts: 9 Simple Ways to Break Free from the Habits that Hold You Back.“ by Rangan Chatterjee. I learned about it by listening to an episode of the Soul Boom podcast (which i am really digging a lot of lately!) and after hearing the episode i instantly bought the book and read it quickly. check out the podcast first (here) and then if interested read the book. let me know your reflections if you end up reading it.
3. speaking of the Soul Boom podcast. consider this episode that my buddy Wesley and I mention in a recent thing we did. it’s about the epidemic of loneliness in the western world and the former US Surgeon General’s recommendations for overcoming that.
4. speaking of that thing Wes and I recently did, we are working on a new Project called ‘The Space.” we are trying to create a space where people can be seen, heard, and related to without an agenda. if you know anyone in the Birmingham area please encourage them to join us on February 22. see the link for more details.
5. i’ve also been listening to this group called the Hillbilly Thomists. they’re Dominican Friars who play bluegrass music. it’s fabulous. see their stuff here. you can listen to them anywhere you usually stream music. I’d recommend listening first to either “Bourbon, Bluegrass, and the Bible,” or “Good Tree.”
6. i tell a daily Dad joke now. it’s my new thing. if you ever need a pick me up contact me and i am happy to send along the joke of the day. here’s the one i used today: what kind of bear is the most condescending of all the bears? a Pan-DUUUU. { your’e welcome :0 }
7. i wrote a really provocatively titled blog post called “it’s good when church sucks.” check it out if you want.
